Isdin Eryfotona Ageless SPF 50 Tinted Mineral Sunscreen Review and Wear Test with DNA Repair Enzymes

Today’s video is a tinted mineral sunscreen review and wear test of Isdin’s Eryfotona Ageless SPF 50, which contains DNA repair enzymes. I also briefly discuss the science of DNA repair enzymes in the skin, specifically that of photolyase.

I am standing outside under direct sunlight so you can see exactly how era futona h-list looks on my skin this is a full quarter teaspoon on my entire face and you can see that it’s still really shiny and really orange and this is three hours after application so even when it’s dried down for three hours this is how shiny it looks and i think it does oxidize

A little bit which is why i’m so orange but like damn i look like the president into the shade now step into the shade um because that was shady i forgot to mention this has fragrance in it so if you are sensitive to fragrance consider yourself warned and the smell is pretty off-putting in my opinion it’s like this synthetic floral scent so not my favorite you

May get a rash from it i’m sorry today we are going to be talking about is dense era futona ageless ultralight emulsion broad spectrum spf 50. and this is one of their newer releases that just came out earlier this year so i’m just going to do a quick rundown of the ingredients in here then i’m going to jump into the wear test and then i’m going to talk about the

Technology of the sunscreen which is the inclusion of a dna repair enzyme that’s right a dna repair enzyme sounds super futuristic named photolyze that they included in here so why don’t we just get right into it this is a 10.7 zinc oxide mineral sunscreen so it’s all mineral within this sunscreen are a couple of antioxidants they’ve included tocopherol which is

Vitamin e they’ve also included tocopherol acetate which is a vitamin ester there’s ascorbic acid which is vitamin c and a scorable palmitate which is a vitamin c ester and the vitamin c in here is actually a lot lower on the ingredients list so that leads me to believe that it’s in here to help prolong the shelf life of the formula as opposed to offer antioxidant

Protection in the skin but a quick word on antioxidants in sunscreen just use a dedicated antioxidant serum and don’t let antioxidants in sunscreen sway your decision in picking which sunscreen to use because you just don’t know if it’s going to work on your skin and sunscreens aren’t you know they’re designed to protect you against uv they’re designed to protect

You against blue light if they include iron oxides which this one does they’re not designed to neutralize free radical damage so stop looking for antioxidants in a sunscreen it’s a waste of time and effort in my opinion because you just don’t know if it’s actually going to work in your skin so just get an antioxidant that is formulated to work on your skin and

Use that to neutralize free radicals while you wear your sunscreen to protect you against blue light and uv this sunscreen also claims to include peptides for anti-aging again who knows if peptides work so i personally i don’t bat a single eye when i hear that there’s peptides included you know i don’t really i don’t really care because i don’t know if it’s gonna

Work this sunscreen mentions that there’s the inclusion of coq10 which is ubiquinone and antioxidant however there’s no coq10 that’s actually added in here instead they used a peptide that may increase your body’s ability to produce more coq10 but again who knows if that works the sunscreen also contains photolyse which is a dna repair enzyme that can diffuse

Into the cells and repair past damage from sun exposure this is a tinted sunscreen and i emailed izdan and they told me that the concentration of iron oxides in here is 1.62 percent all right moving on to everybody’s favorite part the wear test so i have my handy little 1 8 of a teaspoon here that you’re probably all familiar with and just a reminder you need a

Quarter teaspoon to the entire face so i like to do an eighth of a teaspoon to half my face so i’m just going to pour an eighth of a teaspoon and you can see that it’s super runny and liquidy but that’s what it looks like and it’s a the tint is definitely too dark for me let me put it on but this formula contains alcohol so if you have had bad experiences with

Your skin and alcohol containing products you might want to steer clear of this formula okay so i was having a hard time talking while spreading sunscreen on my face so i’m just gonna talk about it here and you can see this is what it looks like um i think the lighting here is not really doing it justice because it’s actually quite darker than it appears in

The camera so it’s too dark for my skin tone um but this is a lightweight runny liquid spreads really easily there’s a little bit of alcohol in it which probably contributes to how lightweight it is when it goes on it’s quite shiny as you can see i find that it’s a little a little too shiny for me still i have fitzpatrick skin type 3 so that just means that my

Skin type can tan or it can burn if you have fitzpatrick’s skin types four through five i think that this shade would definitely work better on you so i’m thinking about somebody who might be of east asian descent like myself but they’re on the more tan side of things i’m thinking about southeast asian people um if you are latinx i think that if you are south

Asian you would definitely need to be on the fairer side of south asian if you are black this is probably not going to work for you but fitzpatrick’s skin types four through five this might work on your skin tone and actually i am going to show you a picture of how this wears on my beautiful brown partner on half of his face he has the aerophotona and the other

Half he has a brush on sunscreen and you can tell which side is which because the air futona side is going to be shiny whereas the brush on sunscreen side is going to be a matte finish so i’m going to show that right now and you can see that the air fortona blends in decently well you can definitely tell that there’s a sheen on the skin he said it was acceptable

But it’s not something that he would wear so we’ll leave it at that this is how it wears and later on i will just go ahead and put a full face of it on just to make things even because the sunscreen is so lightweight i think it’s good for people with oily to combination skin however the drawback is that even though it is lightweight the dry down is shiny okay

Let’s now talk about the dna repair enzyme technology that they include in the sunscreens this box over here the dna repair zones what that’s referencing is that they have these dna repair enzymes it’s called photolyse encapsulated in a liposome to help it diffuse into the skin cell where it will then look for alterations in the dna to repair those and our skin

Is exposed to sunlight one of the alterations in dna that occurs is something called a cyclobutane pyrimidine dimer this creates a bulge in the dna so where photolytes comes in is again it diffuses into your cell localizes to where these bulges occur and then it reverses all the structural changes that happen when you do form one of these cyclobutane pyrimidine

Dimers the next question is are there studies showing that human skin benefits from photoliase and the answer is yes there are studies that have demonstrated that the use of photolyze can reduce the number of actinic keratoses the number of new squamous cell carcinomas the number of new basal cell carcinomas developed over a certain period of time there are

Limitations to these studies most of them are really small they don’t have that many participants not many of them include a control group in which one group uses just sunscreen another group uses the sunscreen and the dna repair enzyme and another limitation is that the study population included are individuals who either have a genetic predisposition to skin

Cancers because they have the condition known as xeroderma pigmentosum where your dna repair enzymes are not working properly which makes you prone to developing skin cancers or it’s including individuals who have had a history of skin cancers who have had a history of actinic keratosis so essentially what i’m trying to say is the study population for all of these

Small studies have been people who are high risk they’re at a high risk for developing non-melanoma skin cancers and so given these limitations this means that these study results are not yet generalizable to the general population like you or myself who may not have a high risk for developing skin cancer if you do have a history of skin cancer and keratoses

See your dermatologist and ask them if they think dna repair enzymes are technology that you could benefit from it’s so important to have guidance from a supervising physician so that you know whether or not you would benefit from a product like this as for the general lay person you should just view this as a sunscreen product that is tinted and all mineral um

I would recommend ignoring the portion of dna repair enzymes because we don’t have enough knowledge yet to know what benefits this might offer us if we don’t have a high risk for skin cancer so that’s where i stand as for whether or not i would repurchase this product no this to me is essentially just a sunscreen product the dna repair enzymes in there are great

But truth be told i i doubt i have a high risk for skin cancer and so i’m not the individual that’s going to benefit most from having this technology included and therefore it’s not worth it for me to shell out 66 dollars to get 3.4 ounces of the sunscreen product the other thing is that with 10.7 mineral zinc oxide you know i just i just don’t know how much uva

Protection that’s gonna give me it could be good if um if the sunscreen’s well formulated it could be poor i have no idea that is another reason why i will not be repurchasing this sunscreen after i’m finished with it you know elta md like i mentioned in a previous video in my review of this sunscreen product which you should go watch i mentioned that there’s

A uv protection factor of 27 here and that’s really high to be honest i doubt that this has a uva protection factor of 27 and if in the future the data comes out that shows that it does great it’ll be back on the rotation but until then because i don’t know the uva protection factor even though i emailed his den because of the high cost of the sunscreen and the

Fact that i might not even really be benefiting from the dna repair enzymes in here i’m not going to be repurchasing repurchasing this product i’m going to continue with my ltmd uv physical so that’s it for this sunscreen review let me know if you learned something new if you’ve ever heard of dna repair enzymes before it’s such an awesome concept that’s been

Around for decades actually but it just hasn’t really been talked about too much like always i’m going to link the product in the description box below and thank you guys for watching and be sure to comment like subscribe for more skincare reviews coming your way particularly sunscreen reviews and i’m thinking about talking about color science next but let me

Know if there is some other product you would like to hear about before thanks bye
